Museum Hotel Wellington is a 165 room boutique hotel, being on a flat site makes it the ideal luxury location for travellers with disabilities or restricted mobility. It is situated in the centre of Wellington city opposite a beautiful harbour and New Zealand's national museum, Te Papa.

The hotel has two main entrances; both are very accessible with level approach to double automatic glass doors. The spacious lobby features opulent décor, walls adorned with original New Zealand art and a bar/café in which to relax.

The hotel reception desk has a lowered section for guests with restrictions so they can register with ease.

Alongside the refurbished hotel rooms, in the Harbour wing, the Museum Hotel offers luxurious apartment style studios and suites featuring exquisitely appointed bathrooms and the kitchens are equipped with European fittings including an espresso machine and washer/dryer.

The accessible apartments, including the en suite, have plenty of circulating space and accessibility is very good with widened doorways and well thought out placement of furniture. Easy access is available to light switches and power points, the mini bar and amenities are well placed and kitchen appliances are at reach. Bench spaces and desks have been custom built with wheelchair use in mind. Custom made wardrobes make storage easy with everything at reach.

The en suite is very spacious and well appointed. The vanity unit is purpose built and mirrors have been placed with height in mind.

The showers have fixed seats, handheld shower rose, and support arms. Grab rails can be found adjacent to the toilet.

The beautifully refurbished studio rooms in the Harbour wing, some of which offer views of Wellington Harbour, are spacious and comfortable with good placement of furniture and fittings. Custom made vanities are a feature of the en suites which also feature fixed seats, support rails and grab rails.

We take pride in our ability to customise a room to suit your needs. For long stay, or guests who stay with us on a regular basis, we are able to remove or replace furniture and or fittings to suit your specific needs. The gym, spa and lap pool are available to all hotel guests on level one. The spa has been well designed with stepped seating that can accommodate all users. A wide ledge separates the pool from the spa and enables an individual with a disability to gain access with ease. Two accessible toilet/changing rooms are situated in this facility.

Hippopotamus, the hotel's award winning in house restaurant, offers harbour views and French style cuisine by executive chef Laurent Loudeac.

Enjoy the welcoming atmosphere in the restaurant and adjoining bar, take in the spectacular harbour views and enjoy.

Access to all areas is open to all, including those in wheelchairs or with restricted mobility.

Open 7 days for breakfast, high tea and dinner. Lunch Monday - Friday (excluding public holidays).

Lobby Bar

Open 24 hours a day, the Lobby Bar is an inviting place to enjoy a coffee or wine while either relaxing or just taking in the artwork.

Live music plays in the lobby every Friday (except public holidays and December to February), 5.30pm to 7.30pm.

Public Facilities

Access toilets and a shower are available in the fitness centre on level one of the Apartment wing.

The bathrooms on level two of the hotel mean that access is available to all who dine in Hippopotamus.

There are designated accessible car parks just outside the main entrance to the hotel. The hotel also provides valet parking if required.
